Emergency Dentist

When you have a dental emergency, you don’t want to have to wait until you are able to make an appointment with your dentist to get it treated. If an emergency should happen to you or a family member, call our office at Capital Dental first. We will be sure that you get the care that you get the care that you need. It’s important to treat the emergency properly so that you minimize damage and discomfort.

Toothache

It should be noted that toothaches are usually not isolated problems but that they are a warning sign of a more complicated issue. Common causes of toothaches include trauma, infection, cavities, or erupting wisdom teeth. Because there are so many possible causes, you should contact Capital Dental as soon as possible to determine the source of the pain. In the meantime, to deal with pain or discomfort, over-the-counter pain medication may be helpful.

Sore gums

Try to clean the area as well as you can and rinse with a warm salt water solution. If there is face swelling, apply a cold compress. Like with toothaches, over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help.

Cracked tooth

If you suffer a cracked tooth, rinse the mouth with warm water first to clean the area. Collect all the tooth fragments that you can find and clean them. A cold compress can help with pain and swelling. A dental cement can also be applied to preserve the affected area and to relieve pain.

Lost filling or crown

This commonly happens when eating. Apply a dental cement to alleviate pain and discomfort. Clove oil can also help with any pain. A loosened crown will need to be cleaned. Once you schedule your appointment with Capital Dental, we will try to place it again, but if this is not possible, a new crown will be made.

Knocked-out tooth

First, recover the lost tooth and rinse it off. Be sure never to handle it by the root, but only by the crown (the top part). Try to place it back into its socket in the mouth. If this is not possible, keep the tooth in a container of milk or saliva.

If you or a family member is facing one of these above issues, or any other dental emergency, please contact our Capital Dental office.
